Seas Excel W21EX001 & Vifa Ringradiator

28-07-2019 à 21:52:37
Hi there,
I have read this forum and the projects here cos I had a pair of 2nd hand Seas W21EX001 bass-mid drivers. But did not know what to do with them. Your forum was VERY helpful for me so many big thanks for all of you - especially monsieur Francois.

I had also a pair of Vifa XT300 ringradiators here so I combined them. After months of fine tuning the sound is very neutral and very very good indeed with lots of 3D effects & space.

I have also a pair of AMT-1 (new models) and AMT-2 (new & old models) Air Motion Transformers here but I don't like the sound. The Vifas integrating much better with the Seas.

My system:
Windows10 PC with JRiver media as player. 100x better than any CD-Player!
Modified Sanskrit Pro DAC with heavy-duty DIY PSU.
DIY tube preamplifier with separate PSU including Lundahls and totally El-Cap free - made with MKPs and Oil filled caps - preamp & PSU = 37kg.
DIY digital & Accuphase P-300 & Accuphase P-300X power-amplifiers. (Digital amp sounds MUCH better than Accuphase)
ViaBlue, Kimber, DIY solid pure silver & Sommer cables.
DIY TangBand titan fullrange & Triangle Titus speakers.

BTW, the crossover:
I have used MKP, MKV, paper in oil, Mundorf silver/oil & russian hybrid capacitors. For the resistance I used Ohmite Audiogold 5Watt resistors (very smooth sound). For wiring I used DIY pure solid silver wire. My coils are not good, I have ordered copper foil with ferrite I-core coils.

Hi François, great site here, thank you!!!

OK first my "CD-Player": Windows10 64bit & JRiver Media player upsampling to 352kHz/32bit with Sox, TPDF dithering and ASIO 32bit.
For DSD (SACD) files: Bitstreaming over ASIO.
Playing from RAM not harddrive.
JRiver Media sound MUCH MUCH better than foobar2000 or VLC (disgusting sound).

BTW, a Microsoft WindowsPC sounds MUCH better than MacIntosh because of the hardware, but not alone. Windows10 sounds better than OSX and Windows7/8 . The mainboard must have many many regulators for good sound.

This is my DIY valve (tube) pre-amplifier. I name it Voyage Aspiration. The case is 10mm aluminium all around. Complete electrolyte free - only paper in oil and MKP capacitors. Military and high-end resistors. Pure silver, ViaBlue & Kimber wiring. Cardas & pure silver sockets. Teflon tube sockets. Quantum cleaners. The pre-amplifier is so heavy (over 15kg) that it will not resonate at 20Hz and above even with speakers in 1m distance playing with 120dB. In this case there is only the pre-amplifier circuit and the filament PSU. The power supply for high voltage is seperate weighing over 25kg... pics coming up.
The dark knob (volume) is ebony and the light knob (selector) is ivory.

This is my DAC. S.M.S.L. Sanskrit PRO-B. I modded it with better output stage op-amps and ELNA Silmic II and OSCON capacitors.

This is my 5m DIY Sommer USB cable. Sounds way better than the original cable. USB sounds so much better than SPDIF/Coaxial or optical (terrible sound). USB 3.1, 3.0 and 2 sounds different!

This is my DIY power supply for the DAC. This makes a good DAC to an high-end DAC. Of course with schottky barrier diodes and Nichicon KA, KZ and ELNA Silmic II capacitors. WIMA snubbers.

BTW, for CD ripping I dont use Plextor, I use the Optiarc (Sony & NEC) models with digital step motor. Sounds more detailed & open than Plextor.

Hi Zapata !

For the capacitors in the crossover, better yet, the excellent Duelund VSF Copper Cast or the sublime Cast Copper !
